The MSG Diaspora, like many other diaspora communities across the globe, can serve as a pillar of growth and socio-economic development for nations. It would therefore be useful to assess the extent to which the MSG Diaspora currently contributes to the development of the MSG Region, specifically the Diaspora communities of Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.
One of the most direct forms of contribution of diaspora communities to their countries of origin is through remittances. From initial research, it has been uncovered that the MSG Member Countries, both as a regional group, as well as individually, do not have in place modern Remittances Polices that guide, facilitate, monitor or regulate the inflow of remittances to contribute to the growth and development of the country.
The requested Technical Assistance will address this by developing a study on the state of affairs of remittances in MSG countries and propose recommendations as to encourage increased remittance flow, and increased productive investment from diaspora.
