Follow-up action on COMESA Technical Assistance

Individuals in COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) Member States must be able to move freely in the region to provide and enhance services, labour, culture, etc.
At the regional level, two Protocols (Visa Protocol, Free Movement Protocol) were established in order to remove barriers to free movement. The Visa Protocol has been signed and ratified by all COMESA Member States, but it still is to be fully implemented.

In 2015, a Technical Assistance (TA) under the ACP-EU Migration Action was undertaken in order to identify the major obstacles at the Member State level to fully implementing the Protocol.
One of the key recommendations was to improve monitoring on implementation, through the establishment of National Monitoring Committees and an online monitoring and reporting platform.

This follow-up TA will look at developing this online monitoring and reporting platform.
